Vectorize Images

Transform your pixel-based JPG, PNG, or BMP files into crisp, scalable vector images in seconds. reaConverter's intelligent vectorization tool automatically traces your artwork, converting blurry raster graphics into clean, resolution-independent vector formats like SVG.
Converting raster images to vectors can seem like a difficult, time-consuming and even costly task. Reasons lie behind the enormous difference between the two types of images — raster images are made up of pixels and tend to become blurry when enlarged, whereas vectors are formed of points, lines and curves, and can be scaled without losing their clarity.
Raster images are usually used for photographs that have lots of colors, and vectors for images with a lesser number of colors, such as logos or fonts. Converting one format to the other requires specialized software and some degree of proficiency in processing digital images, and results might not always be satisfying.

How to vectorize images?

1. Open Images

Load one or more raster images you intend to convert. Select them manually or use the drag-and-drop tool.

2. Vector settings

Go to the Menu button and then to Saving settings → Raster to vector conversion. Here you can choose to use the centerline or the outline algorithm for conversion.

How do they work?
If, for example, the source raster image is a rectangle, if you pick the first option, a single line will be created in the center of the rectangle. If you pick the second, an outline of the rectangle will appear in the output image. Centerline works best in the case of drawings, where all lines and fonts have thin line widths, and outline is recommended in the case of clipart pictures.

3. Save the Result

Pick the location and format of the output images.

Some of the most popular vector extensions include AI, EPS, PDF and SVG, but others are also available. Just don’t forget all output vector images processed through this feature of reaConverter will be black-and-white.
Finally, press the Convert button and the new vectors will soon be ready.

Vectorization with command-line tool

You can convert raster to vector using command-line interface, either manually or through automated scripts. reaConverter Pro includes a command-line tool called cons_rcp.exe — an advanced feature designed for professional use, available exclusively in the Pro edition.

Conversion example:

cons_rcp.exe -s "C:\Path_to\input_file.jpg" -o "C:\Path_to\output_file.jpg" -ras2vec_option 1 -ras2vec_precision 100

Manual

-ras2vec_option
where value = Raster to vector algorithm (1 - Centerline, 2 - Outline, 3 - Outline with fill)
-ras2vec_precision
where value = Raster to vector algorithm precision (from 1 to 100%)
